The next project on the company's diverse production slate is
"Ground Control",
an action/drama about the highly volatile world of air traffic controllers and their struggle to protect millions of air travelers every day.
Captan began his professional career in 1983 as a domestic and international distributor of motion pictures. Though it was for product produced by people other than himself, Captan worked long and carefully to fully understand the industry which included learning the necessary elements for producing successful feature films as well as acquiring an invaluable talent for realizing what the foreign market requires. Experienced in the many facets of the entertainment industry, Captan was soon able to apply his vast knowledge to the benefit of his own company.
Captan soon realized that although he had mastered the art of making science fiction films, it had limitations. One of the pioneers of quality science fiction fare, Captan became distressed when other companies began to follow in his sci fi footsteps, but produced product that was far from good. This, combined with his good business sense and desire to produce movies that would appeal to all media buyers from theatrical, pay and free TV, cable, satellite and so forth, further influenced Captan's decision to diversify. And, with such interesting films already on Green Communications production slate such as "The Time Of Her Time" and "Ground Control", there is no question that the decision was the right one.
The first film to follow under the new direction was the psychological thriller
"Living In Peril".
Starring Rob Lowe, James Belushi and Dean Stockwell, "Peril" is a darkly humorous psychological thriller about a young ambitious Seattle architect whose life takes a deadly turn for the worse when he moves to Los Angeles to work on an important project. Confronted with the everyday urban trials of living in the seedier side of the city, he soon finds his new world has become a menacing and terrifying place as he becomes the target of torment by an unknown enemy who wants him dead.
Today, the thriving company is successfully following its plan to increase its production slate to include three to four original high quality films per year. Most recently the company completed the art house film,
"The Time Of Her Time".
Further evidence of the company's commitment to diversify and work only with exemplary product, "Time" is an extraordinary artistic drama based on the story by Pulitzer Prize winning author Norman Mailer. Set in Greenwich Village, New York at the dawn of the sexual revolution, "The Time Of Her Time" stars Linden Ashby (Mortal Kombat), Leslie Bega (Lost Highways), Larry Drake (Darkman) and veteran filmmaker Melvin Van Peebles (Posse) and is gearing up to participate in the festival circuit.
Particularly important to Captan is the action drama "Ground Control". An original film that he conceived while sitting on a plane waiting for take off, Captan and his team have been developing the project over the last two years to assure that the story is an accurate account of this very important profession. Tackling a unique topic that has yet to be explored in film, "Ground Control" is already flying high in pre-production as it continues to receive tremendous attention, not only from the likes of such an internationally recognized talent as Kiefer Sutherland (A Time To Kill, A Few Good Men) who is set to star in the film, but from buyers worldwide. The film is scheduled for completion on May 1, 1998.
His premiere feature films were
Prototype
and the critically acclaimed
Apex,
which Variety hailed as "a gem of a sci fi movie." Captan went on to produce and distribute more than 20 motion pictures for all mediums including a series of successful sci fi films such as
Digital Man and
Space Marines,
before changing the direction of the company.
